“Y-youji…” Cam blushes and bites his lip as he stares at the small, yet beautiful pair of earrings. He pulls them out of the box and puts them in his ears.

“Real emeralds, they are.”

“W-what?” Cam looks up at him and his blush darkens. “T-those are expensive- Youji- why- I can’t accept something like this…”

“you shall accept them, my friend.” Youji grinned. “it’d be rude not to. And…” he shuffled his feet slightly, trying not to betray nervousness. “I would really like you to have them.”

Cam watched him and smiled slightly. “You’re very sweet Youji…” His smile widens and he walks up to him to hug tightly.

The hug startled Youji a little, but he managed to return it. “Thank you, but it’s… not a trouble. I… I’m not that sweet.”

“How about this Friday?”

“It’s a date. I’ll pick you up. Would you like dinner again? Or something different?” 

“How about something else?” Cam suggested with a small shrug. “Do you have something in mind? Cause if not I don’t mind dinner again too.”

“I might. What is your opinion of picnics?”

“Picnics? Wow… i haven’t been on one in forever… I’d love to go!”

“Well it was certainly a pleasant surprise, you didn’t have to do that…” Cam said warmly and flopped back into the couch he’d been curled up on. 

He bit his lip, thinking about how much it’d cost to go to Japan on top of purchasing the Kimono. “Gosh, I don’t have that kinda money, but I’ll definitely save up to go! I’d love to get one someday.” Cam nodded.

Youji’s soft, gentle laughter could be heard through the receiver, though it sounded like he had been trying to stifle it. “Cameron, if we ended up needing to go to Japan, this one would pay for your tickets there and back. One knows it wasn’t part of your planned expenses. Please, do not worry about it.”

Cam blushed and shook his head. He paused, realizing Youji couldn’t see him and blushed a bit darker. “I-I couldn’t let you do that! That’s expensive…” Cam said bashfully and rubbed the back of his neck. He paused, thinking for a moment about how much he liked the sound of his laughter. It was pleasant, and made Cam smile to himself. 

“Cameron, I travel all the time. I travel to Japan multiple times in a year.” Once again, the smile in his voice was easily audible. “It will not be a hardship for me. and company would be most welcome, if it comes to it.”

Cam paused and chewed on his lip. “…alright, I’d like that…” he said with a nod and a bright smile. Once again he remembered Youji couldn’t see him and he rolled his eyes at his own stupidity. “So… um… when do I get to see you again?” he asked, his voice becoming bashful once again.

Rebound Date Night (Youji & Cam)

Cam looked down at the hand, up at Youji, and down to his hand again. Well, there was something they had in common. Pasts that haunted them.

Slowly Cam’s hand slid across the table toward Youji’s, and he made sure to keep it slow so that Youji could pull away if he wanted. He moved until their fingers were touching and he looked up at Youji with a gentle smile. 

“thank you… for sharing that…” he said softly. He meant it as a simple gesture, to say he understood, or just to be a small comfort. 

When their fingers touched, Youji turned his hand over to lightly hold Cameron’s, trying to ignore the slight shake in his own hand. “As I said, reciprocation. You, of your own violation, revealed much more than you intended to. It was only right that I return with information that I am always uncomfortable revealing…. Sometimes I can still only taste blood and ash….”

Cam smiled and gently squeezed his hand. “Thank you…” he repeated, and his thumb gently brushed over his hand. He desperately wanted to ask Youji more, but he figured that they had definitely said more then enough for their first meeting. 

“I’m sorry…I..I’d like to ask what happened but, I know that’s a little personal for a first date huh?” Cam asked and smiled slightly, knowing those weren’t the proper words for what Youji had said, and apologizing the awkward situation he managed to create by spilling his guts. “I um… I understand if knowing that I’m a part of the Brotherhood bothers you. It happens a lot, so I can leave…” he added, just to clear the air in case Youji was just being too polite to say anything just yet. 

Youji squeezed back. “It was a trouble, but one I would gladly do again.”

He grinned, it was the practiced look, flawless with how it was placed. And undoubtedly would end up being true as the night continued. “No, you are not leaving, and i am not asking you to leave. You are not the brotherhood. While I will not trust anyone else from the brotherhood, I will trust you. Because you are Cameron. Now, let us finish this meal before the food gets cold.” 

After they had finished eating  and placed the dishes in his sink to wash later, Youji led Cameron to the couch. “This one has nexflix. please, feel free to pick what you might like to watch.”

”..Alright…” Cam smiled slightly as he settled back to finish his food. This was the first time he hadn’t been kicked out for being a mutant, at least with someone he’d just met. Let alone telling someone he was a part of the Brotherhood. He was happy, more shocked than anything really, but he couldn’t help the warm feeling that spread through him as Youji explained that he trusted him. 

Once they were done and Youji led him to the couch, Cam plopped down onto it and looked up at Youji, waiting for him to join him. “Ummm….” Cam’s gaze drifted to the ceiling as he mentally sifted through the movies he could remember on Netflix. “Hmmm… have you seen Ghostbusters?” Cam asked, his gaze returning to Youji.

“Long enough ago that this ons has quite forgotten it.” Youji got comfortable next to Cameron, picking up the remote and arranging for the netflix to start playing the movie. He sat close to Cameron, pulling him gently closer.

Cam smiled, glad to watch the classic after such a long time. He hadn’t seen in in years so he couldn’t remember much either. He smiled to himself as he felt Youji pulling him closer, and he easily accepted the gesture. He slid up to Youji and snuggled against him, resting his head on the older man’s shoulder as he turned to look at he TV.

Youji leaned his head slightly, so his head rested gently on Cameron’s. He would confess that he paid more attention to cameron than to the movie, watching the other just out of the corner of his eyes. 

Sadly, the movie cam to an end, and, with it, the end of Cameron’s visit. Youji sighed gently. “well… I greatly enjoyed tonight, that I did. this one hopes that you did as well, cameron.”
